Things to Do in Philly

Philadelphia, known as the City of Brotherly Love, was just listed as the best city to visit in the US by Lonely Planet. It is also the birthplace of American Democracy. As such, there are numerous historical attractions including Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the Betsy Ross House. Philadelphia is also home to Elfreth's Alley - America's oldest continuously inhabited residential street, Reading Terminal Market - America's oldest continuously operating farmer's market, and Eastern State Penitentiary - the former residence of American crime boss Al Capone. Outside of its rich historical heritage, Philadelphia has numerous museums, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, the Franklin Institute, the Please Touch Museum, and the Mütter Museum - home to an exhibit of Albert Einstein’s brain. As you walk the streets of Philly, you will probably notice Murals on the exterior of many buildings. There are more than 3,600 murals in total, which are part of the Mural Arts Program. Of course, Philly is also known as the birthplace of the cheesesteak sandwich. While there are numerous locations around the city to grab a cheesesteak, many of the best can be found at these locations, including Pat’s King of Steaks, whose founder Pat Olivieri is credited as inventing the steak sandwich. If you have time, be sure to check out the Italian Market and any of the restaurants on East Passyunk Avenue, voted as one of the 10 best foodie streets in America in 2013 by Food and Wine Magazine. There is so much to do in the city, and more information can be found here.
