Interesting Work, If You Can Get It

Abstract

 This lecture describes efforts by the presenter in his role as an industrial advisor to Universities. Challenging and innovative projects assist senior year students to make the transition from student to engineer. The presentation will cover the development and outcome of select student projects: Sky Spirit UAV and the St. Paul Parks Trail Usage System. These projects resulted in increased opportunities for jobs and also patents. The lecture also discusses the motivation by industry for enhanced collaboration with academia in the 21st century.


Biography

   Scott Morgan is a Senior Staff Engineer at Lockheed Martin. Scott started his engineering career at Air Research in 1983, designing VIP interior modification for such notables as Ralph Lauren, Kenny Rogers, and Prince Alaweed. Subsequently Scott was hired by Lockheed Aircraft Services (a division of Skunk Works) as a System Engineer to design aircraft modifications for the US State Department, the US Air Force Special Operations (AFSOC), BIG SAFARI (USAF Special Projects), the US Navy (NAVAIR) and the US Coast Guard. Scott serves the University of Minnesota, the University of North Dakota, Iowa State University, and the University of St. Thomas as an industrial advisor and lecturer. Scott is also a voting member of ASTM Technical Committee F38 - Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
