  • WIE Winnipeg (Canada) Leads Robot Building Workshop in China

In September 2006, WIE Winnipeg sponsored a robot building workshop at the Clifford International School in Guangzhou, China. In partnership with Manitoba Robot Games (MRG), WIE member Jennifer Jessop helped the students in Grades 5 and 6 to construct Robocritters, with the assistance of the Grade 5 & 6 teachers and their teaching assistants. The event was fully sponsored by the MRG and WIE.

The school children enjoyed the robot building experience and amazed their teachers at their ability to learn and adapt quickly. The students worked in groups of four to design and construct the robots. The teams divided themselves into design and construction sections and focused on their individual areas and then came together to assemble the final product. The elements of safety, team work and creativity were stressed as key areas to focus on for the students.
