About Us

The SSCS Benelux Chapter gathers all members of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society and organizes activities with a focus for the SSCS audience.

The Solid-State Circuits Benelux Chapter Officers

Jan Craninckx obtained his Ms. and Ph.D. degree in microelectronics summa cum laude from the ESAT-MICAS laboratories of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 1992 and 1997, respectively.  His Ph.D. work was on the design of low-phase noise CMOS integrated VCOs and synthesizers. From 1997 till 2002 he worked with Alcatel Microelectronics (later part of STMicroelectronics) as a senior RF engineer on the integration of RF transceivers for GSM, DECT, Bluetooth and WLAN. In 2002 he joined IMEC (Leuven, Belgium), where he currently is the chief scientist of the analog wireless research group. His research focuses on the design of RF transceiver front-ends for software defined radio (SDR) systems, covering all aspects of RF, analog and data converter design. Dr. Craninckx has authored and co-authored more than 70 papers, several book chapters and has published one book in the field of analog and RF IC design.  He is the inventor of 10 patents. He is the chair of the SSCS Benelux chapter, is a member of the Technical Program Committee for both the ISSCC and ESSCIRC conferences, and associate editor of the JSSC.

Cedric Walravens was born in Tienen, Belgium, in 1983. In 2006 he received the degree of M.S. in Electrical Engineering, specialization micro-electronics, from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. The subject of his MS thesis was on the study and design of a EMC current source. Currently, he is a research assistant at the MICAS group of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He is working towards a Ph.D. degree on low power digital control and data paths. He has been very active in IEEE, being vice-chair in 2005 and chairman from 2006 to 2009 of the IEEE Student Branch Leuven. In June 2009, he volunteered as treasurer for the IEEE SSCS Benelux Chapter.

The Solid-State Circuits Society

The Solid-State Circuits Society with over 10,000 members around the world focuses on realized integrated circuit designs for all applications, using appropriate materials and interconnections. So that more time can be spent on reporting and discussing fabricated designs, less time is spent on simulated and analyzed circuits. The Society produces the most downloaded technical journal in IEEE Xplore, the Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC) and sponsors the premier circuits realization conference the International Solid-State Circuits Conference. (ISSCC)

The roots of the Society start with the launch of the ISSCC in 1955. The Journal started in 1966 to provide an archive of major presentations from conferences, expanded to journal length papers. Soon afterwd the leadership organized itself as a Council of all IEEE Societies contributing to the field of integrated circuits. As the field grew in the 1980s, two more conferences with a solid-state circuits focus were launched , the Symposia of VLSI, a sister symposia with the Electron Devices Society, and the Custom Integrated Circuits Conference. An important relationship began with the European Solid-State Device Electronics Conference and the European Solid-State Circuits Conference. In 1997 the Council became a Society giving itmore control over its own work. In 2003, the Society launched the Asian Solid-Solid State Circuits Conference. In 2009 marked the launch of the Solid-State Circuits Magazine.
