About 1300 attendees gathered at the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina between September 15 and September 21, 2012 for the fourth annual IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Expo (ECCE) to discuss and exhibit various energy conversion technologies and products.  More than 700 technical papers were presented at the conference and more than 40 exhibitors were at the Expo.  ECCE 2012 had a jam packed agenda spread over five days that included tutorials, exhibition, and plenary, special industry, rap, oral and poster sessions.  The program met the needs of the engineers, professors, managers, and students in the areas of power electronics, energy storage, smart grid, renewable systems, motor drives, electric machines, and energy economics and policy.

The conference started Sunday with two periods of in-depth tutorial sessions for attendees to brush up in their chosen field, and enhance their working knowledge of energy conversion technologies. Plenary speakers Keith Trent, Vice President of Duke Energy, Dan Arvizu, Director of National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Department of Energy and Panu Virolainen, Group Vice President of ABB provided a broad perspective of the technologies and a vision for the future in the opening Monday morning session. The oral sessions spread over 12 parallel tracks started following the plenary session. Monday evening was dedicated to promoting student interaction with industry professionals. Tuesday of the conference week was the exhibition day; the exhibitors included conference supporters ABB, General Atomics, OPAL RT, Eaton and GE. Several industry seminars and poster presentations were planned throughout the day. Tuesday’s activities closed out with Rap Sessions on two topics: Wide Band Gap Power Devices and the Role of Power electronics in Smart Grids and Microgrids. The oral sessions and several social events continued the following days of the conference. A tour of the ABB Smart Grid Center, Advanced Energy Testing facility and FREEDM center at North Carolina State University was arranged for the attendees on Friday.

Welcome to IEEE ECCE 2012 !

ECCE 2012 provides the premier venue for showcasing new technologies, concepts, and applications covering all aspects of energy conversion; and will offer industry participants the opportunity to connect with their customers, vendors, and with other researchers in the community. It also provides academic researchers an ideal venue for disseminating their research work and to determine the research needs of the industry. Experience this unique event as two worlds collide - the energy conversion market and its high level research with real application and commercial products and services.  Please plan to participate in this exciting event.
