October
16-19, 2001
London, England
Dr.
Nigel Custance was our Conference
Chairman for the 2001 conference. In this role Nigel was responsible
for the overall program from initial planning through to implementation.
He was assisted by a very experienced conference organizing committee
including the Chairman from the previous year's conference.
The conference
facilities were within sight and sound of Big Ben and the historic
Houses of Parliament. The river Thames flows adjacent to Parliament
with riverboats running frequently past on sightseeing trips from
the pier down as far as Greenwich.
Travel to
and from the conference could not have been easier. Westminster
Underground (known as the 'Tube) Station is less than 5 minutes
away and there is an extensive network of Red buses serving London
and its suburbs. This enabled Carnahan delegates the choice
of staying in the heart of London or some way out. Of course, the
renowned Black Taxis always provide an alternative, although perhaps
not in the rush hour.
The Channel
tunnel has opened up a convenient and efficient travel link from
the continent - Eurostar trains from Paris and Brussels arrive at
Waterloo station, just one tube stop from Westminster. The journeys
from the several London airports are best undertaken by the trains
which bring visitors within a tube ride to Westminster.
The conference
venue was in the heart of London's best-known attractions; Buckingham
Palace is a 10-minute stroll away, Horse Guards Parade, the Changing
of the Guards and Trafalgar Square are also all within walking distance..….
and that is only the start of the attractions.
