A Welcome from the Chair, Don Campbell
Welcome to the ISEI 2012 which is being held at the Ritz Carlton hotel in sunny San Juan, Puerto Rico from June 10-13, 2012 sponsored by the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS). This is the 19th biennial conference in the series that began in 1976. The aim of the founders of the ISEI was to have a conference that would be held in North America, yet attract a large percentage of attendees from outside North America. While Puerto Rico is not considered part of any continent, it is a self-governing commonwealth in association with the United States. The conference is intended to be a bridge between the entirely research-oriented Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena and the more industrially-oriented Electrical Insulation Conference. The conference covers electrical insulation topics including materials, nanomaterials, transformers, rotating machines, outdoor insulation, switchgear, cables, motors and partial discharge.
I hope you spend some extra time and travel about this tropical island. You will find friendly people, exotic locations, and miles upon miles of white sand beaches, plus an unbelievable rain forest. I plan on experiencing one of the bioluminescent bays. Puerto Rico is a modern progressive and civilized vacation spot that maintains the charm and hospitality of days gone by. You will find everything that the Caribbean has to offer in this all around family destination.
I trust that you will find the conference technically stimulating and thoroughly enjoy your time spent in this island paradise.
