Official Language The official language of the conference is English and will be used for all presentations and printed materials. Passport and Visa All foreign visitors desiring to enter the New Zealand must have a valid passport. Follow this link for Visa Information. No funds are available to assist with travel and registration fees cannot be waived. If, for some reason, your visa application is denied, your registration fees will be refunded to you in full. Tipping Standards Tipping is completely optional in New Zealand, and staff does not depend on tips for income - the total at the bottom of a restaurant bill is all you need to pay (note that sometimes there's an additional service charge). It is acceptable to reward good service and the tip you leave depends entirely on your satisfaction - between 5% and 10% of the bill is the norm. Taxes & Refunds The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a flat 12.5% tax on all domestic goods and services. Prices in this book include GST, but look out for any small print announcing that the price is GST-exclusive. There's no GST refund available when you leave New Zealand. Electricity New Zealand electricity runs at 230/240 volts (50 hertz). Many accommodation options also have 110-volt AC sockets for use with electric razors. Power sockets only accept flat three-pin (with earth connection) or two-pin plugs. Conference Attire Attire during the duration of the conference is business casual. Cellular Phones, Pagers and Watch Alarms As a courtesy to our speakers and other attendees, please turn off any cellular phones, pagers and watch alarms during sessions. Cameras and Video Tape Recording Cameras and video tape recorders are strictly prohibited in the sessions, poster presentations and the exhibit area. Film or video will be confiscated. Smoking All meeting rooms and seated functions are smoke free. Please adhere to the smoking policy of the Christchurch Convention Centre. |
