Keynote 1 by Prof. Jérôme Härri, EURECOM

15:30 Knowledge on Wheels - Challenges and Opportunities of Vehicular Knowledge Networks
Abstract: More than a decade ago, by enabling the exchange of GPS information, hazardous events, sensor data or even anticipated trajectories, vehicular information networks acted as cornerstone to radical innovations towards safer, smoother and greener roads. Today, key enablers such as hyper-connectivity (5G+), edge computing and edge AI pave the way towards cooperative edge knowledge creation and sharing, thus setting the foundation of vehicular knowledge networks. In a similar way that the Internet and more recently social networks transformed information networks, vehicular knowledge networks have the potential to radically transform the vehicular ecosystem by enabling vehicles to a decentralized access to knowledge. Vehicular knowledge networks yet face new challenges, such as ad hoc knowledge naming, identification, authentication, combination or segmentation. This keynote will address these aspects, emphasizing challenges behind vehicles autonomously creating knowledge, locating knowledge or authenticating and tracing knowledge. It will also illustrate the impact of the vehicular knowledge networking with selected use cases and identify standardization gaps.
Bio: Jérôme Härri received a M.Sc. degree and a Dr. ès sc. (PhD) degree in telecommunication from the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne. He is currently Professor at the Communication Systems Department, EURECOM Sophia Antipolis, France, where he leads the Connected Automated Transport System (CATS) team. Previously, he led the Traffic Telematics Junior Research Group at the Institute of Telematics of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. His research is related to Internet of Things (IoT) and Connected Transportation, including wireless vehicular communication and networking, transportation modeling, positioning and localization, or control system optimization. Jérôme has authored and coauthored over 100 international journal and conference papers and is involved in various national and European research projects related to connected and automated mobility (FP7 iTETRIS, COLOMBO and HIGHTS, H2020 5G-Croco, Safe4Rail2, Safe4Rail3, and IntellIoT), and was technical coordinator of the H2020 HIGHTS project. He is Associate Editor for Frontier in Future Transportation as well as for the Hindawi Journal of Advanced Transportation.

15:00 The information superhighway for vehicles of the future - how many lanes of bandwidth?
Abstract: The modern car has evolved into a complex system of controls, computing, and communication; in addition to a rich infotainment experience, there is an increasing desire for communication between vehicles and roadside infrastructure to improve safety and better manage traffic congestion. The combined requirements of infotainment and traffic safety multiplied by millions of vehicles will require significant data bandwidth both inside and outside of the vehicle. This panel will explore the evolving requirements for connectivity to the vehicle as well as networks inside the vehicle and discuss how 5G and in-vehicle networks will meet the demand for increased safety and comfort for the travelers of the future.

Keynote 2 by Michael Buchholz, Ulm University

19:15 Supporting Connected Automated Vehicles with Intelligent Infrastructure
Abstract: Automated driving is a complex task, especially when occlusions of the perception system occur. This regularly happens in urban areas, e.g. by other traffic, buildings, or vegetation. In these cases, information communicated by external sources, like infrastructure sensors or other road users, can help the automated vehicle (AV) to be still able to fulfil its driving task. To research possible solutions exploiting V2X communication in real traffic, the Institute of Measurement, Control, and Microtechnolgy at University of Ulm operates a pilot installation of infrastructure sensors at an occluded junction in a suburban area of Ulm. This test site has been installed and is used together with partners within the German public funded projects MEC-View and LUKAS as well as the European project ICT4CART. It is based on multi-access edge computing (MEC) within a LTE/5G mobile network.
Bio: Michael Buchholz received his diploma degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as his Ph.D. degree from University of Karlsruhe/Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2004 and 2010, respectively. Since 2009, he has been serving as a research group leader and lecturer at the Institute of Measurement, Control, and Microtechnology at Ulm University. His main research interests comprise automated and connected driving, electric mobility, and mechatronical systems. He is serving as a work package and test site leader in several European and German research projects like ICT4CART, MEC-View, and LUKAS. In the German flagship project UNICARagil, Michael coordinates the domain of vehicle automation.

Keynote 3 by Dr. Karsten Schmidt, Audi AG

15:00 Pitfalls and solutions introducing security into modern in-vehicle networks
Abstract: The introduction of new networking technologies (FlexRay, CAN FD and Ethernet) into modern vehicles is always a huge challenge. This challenge is further complicated by the need to introduce a wide range of new functionalities into the vehicle systems. Another level of complexity arises from the need to meet current cyber-security requirements. In my presentation, I would like to share some of the experiences we have made over the years as automotive developer. The focus of my presentation will be on the security and network aspects and I will discuss potential pitfalls introducing security into modern in-vehicle networks and their solutions.
Bio: Karsten Schmidt received his diploma degree in Electrical Engineering as well as his Ph.D. degree from University of Dresden. He starts his professional career as software developer for mobile communication networks. Karsten is a senior automotive software developer at AUDI AG with 15+ years of experience developing various safety and security relevant systems and also support the introduction of new technologies (FlexRay, Ethernet) into modern cars. The main fields of work now are: Security for in-vehicle networks, hardware security and security architecture for automotive systems. In his spare time, he tries to figure out how software defined radios works.
