CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN
Dear IEEE Bangalore Section Members,
I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES A VERY
HAPPY, PROSPEROUS AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR – 2005.
The year 2004 was a year of full of activities and achievements for the IEEE Bangalore Section. In the month of April 2004 at R10 AGM, GOLD Affinity Group, Bangalore was judged the best Group and Best GOLD Affinity Award was given to it. In the month of September the Section conducted an International Symposium on Microwaves (ISM-2004) under the General Chair of Prof. A. Selvarajan and Technical Chair Shri. H. Ramakrishna (Former Executive Director, CRL-BEL). The event was sponsored by M/s CO-PEX Pvt. Ltd and was co-sponsored by IETE, IMAP and IEE Bangalore Chapters. The Symposium was inaugurated by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, Secretary, Dept. of Space/ Chairman, ISRO. On this occasion an exhibition was also opened. The Section sponsored two students for the IEEE Student Congress at Hong kong. During this year two new Society Chapters have been opened. The Student, Professional, Technical, Membership Development and E-News Letter Chairs have done excellent job by conducting many activities, tutorials and also taking part in the inauguration of new student branches. An Annual Technical Symposium and a Student Paper Contest were organized by Dr. T. Srinivas (Technical Activities Chair) during the last quarter. We also had a Distinguished Lecture under the DLT Program by Prof. Kalyan Sen, USA.
I am proud to inform that the overall membership growth for the year 2004, is 13% and 18 of our Members got elevated to Senior Membership grade. I am also happy to inform that Dr. P.V. Anand Mohan has been elected as IEEE Fellow from January 2005. I wish to congratulate the new Senior Members and the Fellow for their elevation.
The year 2004 had been a year of activities. I hope 2005 will bring more laurels and activities to the Section. I wish to thank my Fellow Section Executive Committee Members, Volunteers, Ex-Chairs and Chairmen of other Professional Societies in Bangalore for their full co-operation and help received from time to time in executing the Section’s professional activities in 2004.
Once again I wish you all a Happy New Year and bright future.
