詳細 | A significant amount of literature is now available on the
biological effects of electromagnetic radiation especially on human
beings. After the declaration by WHO of electromagnetic radiation as
probably carcinogenic to humans in 2012, lots of concern have been shown
in this regard by the scientific community worldwide. However, the
effect of such radiation on the plant kingdom has been studied at best
scantily by an inconsequentially small number of researchers so far.
This research is of no less significance in view of the way our food
chain is affected by the well being of crops and vegetables.
In view of this scenario, we delved into the studies of absorption of
non-ionizing radiation by Indian flora and its consequences. At first we
studied the material behavior of different fruits, vegetables etc. Then
their specific absorption rate for radiation from cell phones and mobile
communication towers was investigated under conditions pertaining to
exposure limits prescribed in India. All these investigations were
undertaken under controlled environment for which a specifically
designed reverberation chamber was fabricated. The results reveal some
interesting inferences pertaining to the different variety of crops and
other Indian flora.
In order to assess the effects of long term radiation exposure, the
changes in vital biochemical ingredients in various food grains were
monitored. A scientific morphological time study was also carried out on
typical household plants. It is expected that these results will help in
proper formulation of guidelines for radiation exposure of plants,
particularly in view of the upcoming 5G communication systems. |
