The IEEE WIE Affinity Group of Kharagpur Section (IEEE WIE AG KGP) held its first STAR Program on July 14, 2015 with class XI students in Hijli High School, Kharagpur. This pre-university outreach program was first of its type from WIE AG KGP to be organized independently without any collaboration. The STAR (Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist) program is an initiative by the IEEE to educate the students about the basics of technology and update them about the development of the technologies around the world. The aim of this program is to encourage girls to take up careers in science and engineering. Interactive sessions were held on pursuing engineering as career option.

The activities included introductory lectures, classroom activities, and science quizzes. It also included special interactive sessions to spread awareness about career possibilities in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM), engineering as a profession - scope, branches, disciplines, resources and scholarships available, and various entrance exams.
