Structural Subband Decomposition: A New Concept in Digital Signal Processing |
Speaker |
Prof. Sanjit K. Mitra, University of California, Santa Barbara, California, USA
|
Abstract |
Polyphase decomposition of a sequence was advanced to develop computationally efficient interpolators and decimators, and has also been used to design computationally efficient quadrature-mirror filter banks. The polyphase decomposition represents a sequence into a set of sub-sequences, called polyphase components. However, the polyphase components do not exhibit any spectral separation. In this presentation, we first review the concept of structural subband decomposition, generalization of the polyphase decomposition, which decomposes a sequence into a set of sub-sequences with some spectral separation that can be exploited advantageously in many digital signal processing applications. We then outline some of the applications of the structural subband decomposition, such as efficient design and implementation of FIR digital filters, development of computationally efficient decimators and interpolators, subband adaptive filtering, and fast computation of discrete transforms. |

A Critical Insight into Investing Wisely and Profitably for the Long Haul |
Speaker |
Mr. Edgar Lau, Fin-Exis Advisory Pte
Ltd |
Abstract |
A critical insight to investing wisely and profitably for the long haul.
It’s been said that Napoleon won his battles in his tent. He did all the planning before the battles, so that all every contingency could be adequately covered. Investment planning is similar. You’ll never know exactly what will happen on the battlefield, but by being prepared, you can eliminate a lot of the uncertainties, and learn how to response to different scenarios optimally.
If you plan to invest, invest in planning.
