This web page is an index to a number of webpages relating to IEEE in the Greater Washington Area. A large number of technical chapters belong to either or both of two sections, the Washington Section (WS), and the Northern Virginia Section(NoVa). In addition, the National Capital Area Council (NCAC) has responsibility for certain joint activities the most visible of which is the publication of the bi-monthly Scanner.
The Decision of the NoVa Executive Committee to withdraw from NCAC, essentially forcing the dissolution of NCAC, is subject to a vote by members of the Northern Virginia Section. Members of NoVa are defined as those who have given Northern Virginia as the preferred mailing address whether it is home or work. A Ballot was mailed out, but the Ballot only references the NoVa web site which, although it contains statements pro and con the proposed action, does not give the complete story - NCAC was not given an opportunity to review the pro statement before submitting its own con statement within an arbitrarily imposed deadline. To provide a more complete record we are herewith posting the following documents:
A point by point rebuttal of the NoVA Pro Statement by Jim Allen, Vice Chair, NCAC
The Original Pro and Con Statements as well as the Ballot are on the NoVa web site.
This web page, index to the web site ewh.ieee.org/r2/capitalarea, replaces an older index which, however, remains accessible through the following link https://ewh.ieee.org/r2/capitalarea/oldindex.html. The web site contains a very large number of documents that have historic interest as well as, no doubt, a number of links of interest. When updating the web site in February of 2002 all old documents and their links were retained for minimal disruption.
In connection with the introduction of the new index we have also updated the NCAC page and will update the Scanner web pages. Regarding the Scanner, there is an effort to make it accessible also over the Internet, an effort that will be reflected and documented on the Scanner web pages. In particular we will keep the calender section of the Scanner as a separate document which, being updated and accessible on the Internet, should help the sections and the chapters to keep the membership informed of their activities in a timely manner.
