2004 Meeting History

July 2004 Meeting
The IEEE Central Georgia Section July Meeting was a tour of the Macon Water Authority Amerson Water Treatment Plant in Macon GA. The meeting was on Tuesday, the 27th of July at the Town Creek Reservoir off Upper River Road north of Macon in Jones County. The tour of the Amerson Water Treatment facility was conducted by Chuck Mixon along with Auther McMurray. We saw the control console used by operators to monitor and control system pressures and flows. Water is tested in the lab at all stages of the treatment process along with water samples from various points around Macon.
We also learned the Towncreek Reservoir holds approximately 6.5 billion gallons of water and about 63 million gallons can be pumped from the Ocmulgee River each day. Water is distributed by being pumped across the river to the old water treatment site where it ties into the existing system. After the tour of the water treatment facility, we adjourned to the Red Lobster on Riverside Drive in Macon GA for dinner.
Thanks to President Curtis Lee for arranging this meeting.

May 2004 EXCOM Meeting
The May 2004 IEEE Central Georgia section meeting was a meeting of the executive committee (Ex-com). The EXCOM includes club officers and members-at-large. President Curtis Lee presided. Also in attendance at the meeting were Max Roesel, Rick Noel, Al Richardson, Cliff Menchew, Domingo Uy, and Dan Bishop. Topics included upcoming meetings and benefits of IEEE membership. Region 3 will host the IEEE convention in Tampa in October of 2005.
Thanks to President Curtis Lee and other EXCOM members for their leadership.

April 2004 Meeting
We got a briefing on the Joint STARS synthetic aperture radar (SAR) program. Mark Mosley of the Joint STARS office gave us the presentation. The meeting was on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 6:30 PM, at Ball Engineering in Warner Robins GA. Ball Engineering is located north of Po' Folks restaurant on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins GA.
Dinner afterwards was at Po' Folks.

March 2004 Meeting
The March meeting of the Central Georgia Section of the IEEE was held in conjunction with the 29th Spring Electronic Warfare symposium at the Robins AFB Museum of Aviation. The Electronic Warfare society (known as the Association of Old Crows) promotes awareness of defense electronics and is an association of industry, academia, and government. The local middle Georgia group is known as the Dixie Crows. We visited the Vendor Exhibits which was the largest number of exhibitors for a Dixie Crow symposium. Dixie Crows President Julie Vick arranged to waive the entrance fee for IEEE members to encourage professionalism among electronic warfare and electrical engineers. Thanks, Julie, for getting the local electronics engineers in to the symposium. IEEE members enjoyed observing the electrnic warfare exhibits and visiting with electronic warfare personnel. Dixie Crow provided Hors d'oeruves were enjoyed by all. For more on the Electronic Warfare symposium, visit Dixie Crows Thanks to Robins Electronic Warfare Director, Patty Martin, for hosting the event at Robins. Thanks to Dixie Crows president Julie Vick and Lee Evans for including the IEEE in their Dixie Crow symposium. Also in attendance, were Teledyne Electronic Technologies personnel; Mike Baker (from Rancho Cordova CA), Dennis Maloney (from Dayton), and Michael Jordan (from Warner Robins). Mike, Dennis, and Michael gave us an excellent presentation last year on Travelling Wave Tubes (TWTs). Their presentation of the comparisons of TWTs versus solid state/integrated circuit electronics was educational and practical. We are thankful for the safe return of Mr Baker's son (a Navy E2 pilot) from the Iraq war.

February 2004 Meeting
Our first meeting of 2004 was on the new data bus system (IEEE 1553). We met at Ball Engineering in Warner Robins for the presentation from the Wright-Patterson support office. Lt Daniel Noel made the presentation.
Thanks to Rick Noel and Greg Taylor for arranging the meeting.
