Central Georgia IEEE Section 2013 Meeting History
ExComm Our Executive Committee meeting was on Thursday, the 21st of March at 6:30 PM. We discussed the upcoming year,
charitable contributions,
slate of officers, etc. We met at Macon GA Red Lobster. We had 11 to attend with three Mercer student section members
join our group.

March meeting Our March meeting was a visit to the Dixie Crows Exhibits at the Robins Museum of Aviation on the evening of
Tuesday, the 26th of March. The Dixie Crows host the southeastern electronic warfare symphosium each Spring at Robins AFB.
The IEEE March meeting was a visit to the Dixie Crow Chapter of
Association of Old Crows exhibits at the Robins AFB Museum of Aviation on
Tuesday evening, the 26th of March, 6:30 PM. The Dixie Crows symposium is
the southeastern electronic warfare conference. The Old Crows is the
professional society for users, developers and maintainers of electronic
warfare systems and components. The Old Crows work to preserve, promote
and advance electronic warfare technology in the defense of our nation.

admittance to the Dixie Crows Tuesday symposium exhibits. Thanks to
symposium chair Lisa K. Frugé and Dixie Crows President Karen Brigance.
IEEE SoutheastCon The 2013 Southeastern Conference was the first weekend in April
in Jacksonville FL. The conference theme was "Innovationing
for a Better Tomorrow." The conference was in Jacsksonville FL at the Hyatt on the Riverfront.
Larry Adams and Dan Bishop from our section attended.
Next year's event will be hosted by the Lexington KY section.
June Meeting The June IEEE Central Georgia meeting was a tour of the Bonaire
500/230/115 kV electrical substation located on Highway 247, south of Robins
AFB on the west side of the highway. The meeting was an overview of a
large electrical transmission substation. The station is owned by Georgia
Transmission Company and operated by the Georgia Power Company as part of
Integrated Transmission System. Located between the Scherer coal fired
plant and the Hatch nuclear powered plant, electrical power is transmitted
at 500 thousand volts through this station and on to Florida. We will meet
at the entrance to the station at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. The
address is 300 Oak Avenue (US-129) Bonaire GA 31005 and is about a mile
north of Highway 96 on Highway 247. For the GPS users, Lat 32.56601597
Long -83.60003304.

Participants were encouraged to bring a hardhat and safety eyeglasses. Please wear
appropriate footwear (like sturdy work shoes or boots). A brimmed hat,
long sleeves, and bug spray/sunscreen was advised for those needing those
items. The weather forecast called for 87F temperatures and partly cloudy
skies.
Afterwards, we had dinner at Martin's BarBQue at Watson Boulevard and
Highway 247 across from the main Robins AFB entrance. Thanks to Martin's for staying open after 8 PM for us.

2013 Officers The 2013 slate of officers for the IEEE Central Georgia section was reviewed by Past Chair Rick Noel. Rick reviewed and made his recommendations for the next year. The leadership slate was confirmed at the June meeting.

October Picnic The IEEE Georgia picnic was on Saturday, the 26th of October at the Robins Museum of Aviation. We met from 11 AM to 1:30 PM. The IEEE Central Georgia
section hosted this Martin Bar B Que catered event. Members from the Atlanta, Savannah, and Central Georgia sections enjoyed a nice lunch outside.

November Meeting
The November meeting was a computer security presentation by Dr Proeller. Dr George J. Proeller is an IEEE lecturer and computer security consultant.
The meeting was on Tuesday, the 5th of November. We met at 6:30 PM at the Macon campus of Mercer University in the Science and Engineering
Building (SEB) auditorium. We had quite a few Mercer folks in attendance. Thanks go to Prof Donald Ekong for setting up the room for us.

November Meeting The November meeting will be a computer security presentation by Dr George Proeller on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at
the Macon campus of Mercer University in the Science and Engineering building.
December 2013 Meeting
Michael Ivey spoke about power line design on December 3rd at 6:30 PM at the Georgia Power Macon assembly room. Georgia Power is
located at 960 Key Street in Macon GA.
The presentation was an overview of various aspects of power line
design. While electrical engineers may be called on for electrical design
issues, they may also be involved in areas that are not strictly electrical.
The presentation will include some details about planning, electrical, and
mechanical design considerations.
Michael Ivey is a licensed electrician and a registered professional
engineer in Georgia. He works in Moultrie GA at McLean Engineering, a
power engineering consulting firm that has been in business since 1936.
Michael has worked in the utility industry for more than 20 years and has
experience in engineering and design of substations, transmission lines, and
distribution systems as well as other utility areas including planning,
finance, protection and control, system maintenance and system operations.
