Energy
Performance-Metrics in the Federal ENERGY
STAR®
Program
|
Speaker:
|
Julio Rovi,
Senior Associate at
Cadmus
|
Abstract:
|
In an effort to
reduce greenhouse gases and energy waste, two
federal agencies-DOE and EPA-teamed up to
support ENERGY STAR. Although ENERGY STAR builds
from work from both agencies, DOE focuses on
primarily on appliance performance and EPA
focuses on the performance of homes, commercial
buildings and other products. This presentation
provides an overview of ENERGY STAR, its
products and services and described how ENERGY
STAR evolved from a focus on "energy efficiency"
to "energy performance", moving the market away
from "energy conservation". Special attention
will be placed on what makes buildings more
energy efficient and how this is measured.
Attention is also placed on how energy
performance was defined for office equipment and
some industrial
electronics

Transmission
Voltage Capacitors -
Substation
|
Speaker:
|
John E. Harder,
Applications
Consultant
|
Abstract:
|
The
application of capacitors on transmission systems
has become critical with the increased loading of
these systems. This presentation will discuss the
considerations in placing capacitors on the system,
the construction of transmission voltage capacitor
banks - including protection, and operation and
maintenance considerations.
|
Bio:
|
Mr.
Harder is a consulting engineer with substantial
experience with design and applications
considerations for transmission voltage equipment;
including power capacitors, surge arresters,
capacitive voltage transformers, etc. He has
provided expertise on insulation systems;
insulation coordination; testing techniques; and
the design, protection and operation of
transmission systems. He has been involved with a
wide variety of equipment applications since the
early 1970's and has worked with many utilities and
industrials on applications and problems.
