"Modern Marvels 'Invent Now'
Challenge
Semi-Finalist"
On February 14, 2006, the History
Channel and Invent Now, Inc., a
division of the National
Inventor's Hall of Fame
Foundation, notified
Dr
David E.
Flinchbaugh
(IEEE Orlando Section Fellow
Member)
that the UroCycler/Advanced
Bladder Management System had
been selected from over 4,200
entries as one of the top 25
semi-finalists in the Modern
Marvels Invent Now Challenge.
"Our judges had a particularly
difficult time selecting the
semi-finalists from among the
many worthy submissions, but
yours clearly rose to the top."
Their product exhibitions
appeared in Los Angeles, Chicago,
Boston, and the National
Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron,
OH. On May 24, 2006 the Awards
Reception and recognition
ceremonies were held at
Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central
Station, New York City. This was
an exciting event with officials
from the U. S. Patent &
Trademark Office, a major
co-sponsor, along with
representatives from Time, Life,
Scientific American, Popular
Science, Popular Mechanics,
various newspapers, and other
technology-oriented popular
media. Two other sophisticated
medical systems (a laser and a
stent) invented by surgeons also
received recognition at this
multi-disciplined event. A small
photo of the ABMS appeared on P.
6 of the June 2, 2006 edition of
Time Magazine.
