News from Women in EECS
|
Friday, March 16th, Women in EECS at UCF, ACM at UCF, Valencia Robotics Society,
Valencia College Department of Architecture, Engineering, and Technology,
and Orlando Section of IEEE debuted Robots ROCK (Reaching Out to Creative Kids),
an EECS Youth Out-reach program, at Tildenville Elementary School.
Eleven volunteers engaged with 80 Fifth Graders in a robot racing exercise followed by a
Question and Answer session about technology education. Every child had the opportunity
to interact with a pre-assembled LeTry robot in a relay race. The teams then graphed their
performance on a chart. Many of these children had never had interaction with robots before,
and most of them were interested in Math and Technology as future careers.
Check out our website for pictures of the event, to request us to come to an elementary school,
and to volunteer for future events!
