IEEE Orlando Section - Chairman's Corner

 
We had our second EXCOM meeting in UCF. This was be a joint meeting with the ED/CPMT and AESS Chapter our guest speaker was Dr. Kalpathy Sunderam, he spoke about the CMP Process in Microelectronics, Dr. Peter Yuan, Chapter Chair was the moderator. We had a great attendance and the meeting was a total success, once again our thanks to Dr. Sunderam and Dr. Yuan for their participation.

Engineers Week culminated with the Banquet and a presentation by Martin Marietta's Admiral Stanley Arthur who spoke about smart weapons with impressive video presentation, he also highlighted his concern due to the current shortage of engineers, Dr. Flinchbaugh attended on behalf of our local section.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday March 5th at 6:00 pm in Room 288 Engineering Building UCF, there will be a technical presentation by Dr. Issa Batarseh on "Recent Developments in Power Engineering Research in UCF." there will be pizza and refreshments, this promises to be a educational meeting, you are all invited, don't miss it.

Dr. Al Berg's presentation on "Voice over IP Telephony" has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts.

We are looking forward for April meeting we will be having a presentation and field visit to ATT, stay tuned for more info on this.

Meet the new Chairman

 

Robert J. Pirela is the president of Engineering Professional Services, Inc. his Consulting firm, where he provides Engineering Consulting Services to the construction industry.

Before initiating EPS, Inc., He worked for major engineering consulting and industrial firms both locally and abroad; in his career, he has done design and consulting in various areas including, power, data processing, controls and telemetry.

Mr. Pirela has an extensive experience in power studies and issues related to coordination, harmonics, and short circuits; he regularly provides consulting services to Major Electrical Contractors and Fortune 500 companies in these areas.

He was born in Maracaibo Venezuela, went to school at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He holds a National Engineering Certification, and is a registered Professional Engineer in Florida and Alabama. He is a member of the Florida Engineering Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Mr. Pirela was recently listed in Who's Who Worldwide registry of Business Leaders and he and his family are active in their church.

Mr. Pirela is married to Cecilia (an MD) and they have two children Elizabeth and Alexander.
