"Understanding of Software Testing"
Software testing is a key part of any software product development process. But,
how early the testing would have to start, how often should the testing take
place, how much testing effort should be dedicated within the development budget
but sticking with requirements defined and still keeping a good product quality,
and what types of testing are suitable for a product, all of these remain very
challenge to many testers in different industry products. In this presentation
Ms. Jianming Tsai will show the fundamental solutions to these testing challenges.

(presentation begins at 7:00pm)
"Information Explosion leads to Backup and Recovery headaches: (exploring techniques for headache relief)"
The information age has brought along with it an exponential explosion of the amount of information generated. This information has to be managed and protected in the event of disaster and for long term retention. The techniques available for a small business, small research facility, and the individual are grossly inadequate to handle this management and protection.
In his presentation David Larimer will cover the following:
- The causes of the information explosion
- The implications of this same information explosion
- Some techniques to handle this information explosion
- What is available in the marketplace to manage, protect, and archive information?
- What’s coming in the future?

(presentation begins at 7:00pm)
"Cloud and High Performance Computing"
Cloud Computing has garnered immense popularity in just a few years. There are still many definitions out there of what clouds are. Cloud Computing is not a completely new concept; it has intricate connection to the relatively new but fifteen-year established Grid Computing paradigm, and other relevant technologies such as utility computing, cluster computing, and distributed systems in general. Speaker Dr. Ioan Raicu compares and contrasts Cloud Computing with Grid Computing from various angles and give insights into the essential characteristics of both.
NO FEBRUARY SUBSECTION MEETING
The IEEE Fox Valley Subsection is not having a February meeting because of various engineering
week events, including the DuPage Area Engineers Week event at IIT February 26, 2011.

SUBSECTION MEETING:
27 April 2011 (Wednesday), 6:30pm-9:00pm
(presentation begins at 7:00pm)
"Control of Advanced Prosthetic Limbs"
Dr. Laura Miller will be presenting work done by the
Center for Bionic Medicine at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago related to control of
advanced prosthetic limbs. Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) is a surgery that was revolutionized by the Center’s leader, Dr. Todd Kuiken, to increase the number of control signals available to control myoelectric prosthetic limbs for individuals with an amputation at a high-level (at the shoulder or above the elbow). Work progressed to improve signal processing for control of more advanced components. This signal processing method (pattern recognition) was used as part of the research to control prosthetic limbs developed through the DARPA projects and is now also being developed to control artificial arms for other levels of amputation and to control new powered leg prostheses.
