The Answers

1 Who can apply?

Any group or individual with a proposal that is consistent with the mission of the IEEE Canadian Foundation. Proposals that spread the benefits widely will be most interesting to the IEEE Canadian Foundation; personal projects will not be supported. Special Grants are not intended to supplement or duplicate industry or government research/development programs.

2 Why do I need to relate my project to the mission of the IEEE Canadian Foundation?

Because the IEEE Canadian Foundation is required to comply with the Canada Customs and Revenue regulations regarding its activities as a registered charitable foundation.

3 What is a well documented proposal?

First and foremost, it is a business plan. It states clearly the purpose of the project, the time frame for completion, the resources needed for success, a clear definition of what is meant by success and clear metrics to measure success.

4 What about funding?

That's where the our foundation may come in, along with other folks. The IEEE Canadian Foundation may fund all or part of real expenses, depending on the nature of the project, and its relevance to our objectives. The more innovative your proposal, and the more financial partners you find, and the smaller the percentage of funds that you ask the foundation for, the more likely you are to receive a grant. If your request is for more than a few thousand dollars, it will be difficult for the foundation to provide funding.

5 How do I demonstrate support?

You may encourage partners, supporters, beneficiaries of your proposed project to indicate their support using the on-line application forms.

6 How can I get help in making my application?

You can contact our IEEE Canadian Foundation Grants Committee at: grants@ieeecanadianfoundation.org
