IEEE Canadian Foundation Gargantini-Strybosch Scholarship

General  

One scholarship known as The IEEE Canadian Foundation Gargantini-Strybosch Scholarship will be awarded annually for a student member of the IEEE who is in their 2nd year of undergraduate studies in an area of interest to the IEEE. Note: Nominations must be complete and received by the posted deadline of Mar 15 in order to be considered.

The nominee must be:

  1. a student member of IEEE (or willing to apply),
  2. enrolled as a full-time student entering his or her second undergraduate year,
  3. a first generation in the family university student,
  4. completing a Canadian university program in a field of interest to IEEE,
  5. a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.

The nominee is expected to demonstrate:

  1. Brightness, in a broad well-rounded sense, not just academic course marks,
  2. Integrity, the fundamental values of which are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, courage, as well as trustworthiness. These values are central to the development and sharing of knowledge,
  3. Engagement with their community, e.g. electrical and computer engineering, humanitarian use of technology, campus life, local, national or international community.,
  4. Commitment and enthusiasm for undergraduate study in fields of interest to IEEE.

One scholarship in the amount of $5,000 may be awarded annually and will be paid to the student's education institute following selection and approval by the ICF Board. The scholarship need not be awarded in a given year if no suitable applications are received.

All student members of the IEEE who are registered in an undergraduate program of interest to the IEEE at a Canadian University or College (e.g. engineering or computer science) are eligible.

Submission

The student application must be submitted on-line using the link in the "Applications and Nominations" section on the left side of this page by March 15.

The Decision Process  

The Grants Committee of the IEEE Canadian Foundation will review and rank the applications and forward their recommendations to the Board of Directors of the IEEE Canadian Foundation who will determine the recipient at their first meeting of each year, normally held in early April.

Notification  
Nominees will be notified via e-mail by the Foundation, as soon as possible following the meeting of the Board of Directors. The recipient's University (or College) will be contacted by the Foundation regarding the awarding of the scholarship and financial arrangements. Payment will be made directly to the educational institution.

Certificate  
A framed certificate will be presented to the Scholarship recipient by the Section Chair at a suitable IEEE (Branch or Section) meeting. The certificate will be prepared by the ICF Treasurer. The framing of the certificate is the responsibility of the Section. Note Nominations must be complete and received by the posted deadline of Mar 15 in order to be considered.
