SHORT DESCRIPTION
- The Institute of Industrial Mathematical Sciences (IIMS) at the
University of Manitoba fosters collaborative research between
mathematical scientists at the university and partners in industry,
government, business or academia. Here, "mathematical scientists"
includes mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists and
others - such as economists, engineers and physicists - who use
mathematics as an important tool in their research.
Researchers at the IIMS offer assistance to industry in a number of
ways. They can help to design experiments, develop mathematical or
statistical models for industrial or biological processes, analyze
and interpret data, address computational issues, and seek solutions
that improve quality or optimize processes. The Institute also
offers workshops on mathematical, statistical and computational tools
that increase the efficiency of research and development activities.
Possible topics include mathematical modelling, the use of
mathematical software packages, fitting linear and non-linear
equations to data, and the use of designed experiments for process
optimization. Workshops can be tailor-made to meet the needs of
individual companies or organizations.
