Editing a template and updating pages: When you edit a template, you can choose to apply the changes to all pages that use that template. For example, to change the identity graphic for this site on all sample pages in the site, change the graphic in the template and direct Dreamweaver to update the pages in the site that use the template.

For most changes, editing a template is like editing any page in a site. You add, delete, or modify the content of the template. Editing a template differs from editing other pages because you can define new editable regions, or lock editable regions.

How-To edit a template:

Open a page based on the Template you wish to edit: Choose Modify > Templates > Open Attached Template. In the document window, select an item in the template you want to modify.

To create a new object within the Template: click or drag an object from the Object palette into the document window.

To define a new area as an editable region: select the object (td, text, table, img, etc) and choose Insert > Template Objects > Editable Region. Enter a name for the region in the New Editable Region dialog box, and click OK.

Note: The following characters are not valid for region names: ampersands (&), angle brackets (<>), apostrophes (`), and quotation marks (").

To turn an editable region into a non-editable region, place you curser within the editable region, choose Modify > Templates > Remove Template Markup.

Saving the Template file: After saving the Template click Yes to apply the changes to the documents in the site that use the Template. Or click No to preserve the documents unchanged
