Description
IEEE PuneCon is conceived by IEEE Pune Section to provide a platform for academicians and practitioners to identify and explore the issues, opportunities, and solutions to various problems in society, environment and industry using cutting edge areas of science and technology.
The 1st IEEE PuneCon(44533) will be an international conference on Data Science and Analytics and organized with the support of Symbiosis Institute of Technology, a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), ranked amongst India’s topmost international universities.
Symbiosis Institute of Technology endeavors to provide quality education in line with the requirements of today's competitive industry and rapid developments in technology.
The theme of IEEE PuneCon 2018 will revolve around advances in Data Science and Analytics and will bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners and encompasses wide and diverse topics of application in almost every field of business and services.
The conference also invites the participation of young and enthusiastic undergraduate and graduate students to present their ideas, concepts, and proof of works through an industry sponsored poster competition event. The details of the event will be announced on the conference website soon.
The conference also invites researchers to delve into the area with participation in tutorials/sessions covering a specialized topic covering multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary areas using hands-on/workshops by professionals.

The Scope of the conference includes Tracks in the following key areas but not limited to:
Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0, commonly known as the fourth industrial revolution, is the current trend of automation and data exchange in running businesses. It includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, Cloud computing and cognitive computing where businesses will establish global networks that incorporate their machinery, warehousing systems and production facilities in the shape of cyber-physical systems. End-to- end transparency over the manufacturing process facilitates optimized decision-making for creating value and novel business models especially for start-ups and SMEs. The Industry 4.0 competition is not only about technology or offering the best products; it is also, and in particular, about the companies that gather the appropriate data, combine them to provide the best digital services, and in addition, utilize the data for their own benefit to develop an unfair competitive advantage.
Agriculture and Resources:
Precision farming aims to improve the yield per unit of land using most modern means in a continuous sustainable way. Precision agriculture uses a range of technologies which include IOT/sensors, M2M communication, GPS, robotics, deep learning and big data to optimize crop yields. ICT based decision support systems backed by real time data can significantly improve decision making resulting into reduced wastage and high efficiency operations. The technology can be leveraged by smart application such as fleet management for tracking farm vehicles, livestock monitoring, indoor (greenhouses) and vertical farming, water & irrigation management using IOT.
There can be numerous ways that data science and analytics can benefit the farmers with digital farming (smart farming) with applications for weed detection, flies and parasite infestation monitoring on livestock, forewarning farmers on the movement of locusts and pests in the vicinity, automation of water supply through drip irrigation based on moisture level in soil, temperature and type of crop and many more.
Healthcare and Wellness:
One of the most promising fields where big data can be applied to make a change is healthcare. Healthcare data analytics can be used to improve the quality of social health with timely disease forecast, disease prevention as well as efficient healthcare delivery. IoT technologies such as sensor devices and big data analytics to monitor patients' locations and conditions , robotics that enable safe patient movement, health patches and apps monitoring the vital parameters, telemedicine can lead to improved healthcare for even the poorest of poor at affordable cost.
With social media and internet, medical practitioners are enabled to analyze huge quantities of unstructured patient data using natural-language processing and also helps to extract insights and predictors for timely intervention, providing safer care for high-risk patients and reducing re- admissions. The entire disciplines called nursing informatics and precision medicine have sprung up at the intersection of IT and clinical care.
Genetic data analytics provides sequencing platforms continue to advance and open new doors to medical coding specialists, records technicians and transcriptionists to healthcare information engineers, support specialists, clinical IT consultants and healthcare systems analysts.
Security and Privacy:
Technology is a sword that cuts both ways. Privacy is often defined as having the ability to protect sensitive and personally identifiable information while security is typically defined as the protection against unauthorized access and ensuring integrity & availability of data.It is important that organizations ensure they de-risk themselves and their customers through secure design, secure coding, secure configurations & customization, security testing and secure operations. With technologies like Virtual servers, use of metamaterials to build an extremely fast body scanning capability, incredibly futuristic biometric security solutions as well as advanced analytics solutions on security strategies and execution dramatically improve the speed with which intrusions are detected and reported.
With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force on 25th May, 2018 expect more adoption of Security and Privacy by Design
Smart Cities and Villages:
The combination of technology paired with physical infrastructure and services can simplify the lives of residents. That's the promise of the "smart city." It meets the urban challenges such as safety and security, traffic congestion, aging infrastructure, and even responses to events like climate change and disasters, with leverage IoT technologies. Smart city strategists and urban planners need to implement the solutions that make it possible to utilize the data collected from various kinds of devices for holistically optimizing city operations.
Sustainable Smart City needs to consider elements including renewable energy, smart grids, smart parking and smart transportation.
Predictive Analytics for crime control, pollution control, optimized expenditures on value added projects have been used successfully in several cities provides a balance between economy, environment to build a strong resilient city Ideas for smart cities can be extended to the villages. However data analytics can lead to smart working in certain sectors of concerns like agriculture, cattle/livestock rearing with weather information, digitized irrigation systems, and smart surveillance systems that are needed in villages.
Intelligent Transportation Systems:
Intelligent transportation system (ITS) is the application of sensing, analysis, control and communications technologies to ground transportation in order to improve safety, mobility and efficiency. ITS includes a wide range of applications that process and share information to ease congestion, improve traffic management, minimize environmental impact and increase the benefits of transportation to commercial users and the public in general.
Author guidelines
The conference invites papers describing methodologies, working prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers eliciting future scope in the area of data science. Accepted papers presented at the conference will be published in the conference proceedings which shall be indexed with IEEE Xplore and Scopus. Acceptance will be based on quality, recentness and originality of the work.
The Conference also projects opportunities to be introduced to specialized topics, tools and applications on data science in multidisciplinary areas with workshops/ tutorial sessions by professional. The registration details of the same will be announced on the conference website soon.
