The Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers is hosting its 27th Biennial Conference in July 2019 in Brisbane, Australia.
The AAMT Conference is a highlight in the mathematics education calendar. It attracts more than 500 national and international participants including teachers, education researchers, policy and decision makers, and community, industry and business leaders.
It is important for teachers to have a good understanding of the work of mathematics practitioners in industry, business, research and the public sector. The economies of the future will depend on young people with strong skills
in quantitative methods, data handling, problem solving, modelling and so on.
In all levels of education, mathematics teachers are looking for ideas to demonstrate the practical and workplace applications of mathematics to stimulate
the interest of their students. The conference will give teachers the opportunity to present their creative ideas to captivate students with rich tasks, modelling, mathematics in STEM, and practical activities.
The conference will also look at the direction of mathematics in the future and how this will impact on curriculum and pedagogy. What kind of mathematics and technology will feature in future workplaces? How will mathematics integrate with STEM and other disciplines? How will it be practised—individually, in teams, on what technology platforms? How can these trends inform curriculum development and classroom practice?
