Brief Bio Vesna Šešum-Cavic is a Senior Scientist and University Lecturer in Computational Intelligence, Institute of Information Systems Engineering, Compilers and Languages Group, Vienna University of Technology, Austria. She is a graduated mathematician (Dipl.Math) and Magistar of Computer Science (Mag.) from University of Belgrade. She received a doctoral degree in Computer Science from Vienna University of Technology (Dr. techn.). Her research interests cover swarm intelligence, network optimization, p2p systems, theory and design of algorithms, combinatorial optimization, complex systems, self-organization, multi-agent systems. She was a conference chair/program committee member of international conferences. Vesna is the current Chair of IEEE Women in Computational Intelligence, and a member of the IEEE Women in Engineering Committee, IEEE CIS Webinars sub-committee and the IEEE CIS Member Activities Committee.

	Andrew Adamatzky University of the West of England United Kingdom

Brief Bio Andrew I. Adamatzky is Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Director of the Unconventional Computing Centre, University of the West of England, Bristol, UK. He does research in reaction-diffusion computing, cellular automata, physarum computing, massive parallel computation, applied mathematics, collective intelligence and robotics, bionics, computational psychology, non-linear science, novel hardware, and future and emergent computation.

	Xin-She Yang Middlesex University United Kingdom

Brief Bio Xin-She Yang obtained his DPhil in Applied Mathematics from the University of Oxford. He then worked at Cambridge University and National Physical Laboratory (UK) as a Senior Research Scientist. Now he is Reader in Modelling and Optimization at Middlesex University London and Adjunct Professor at Reykjavik University (Iceland). He is also an elected Bye Fellow at Cambridge University as well as the IEEE CIS Chair for the Task Force on Business Intelligence and Knowledge Management.

SCOPE

The workshop discusses mathematical and computational methods, techniques and models for P2P network optimisation (as well as applicative scenarios) using inspirations from nature. Nowadays highly dynamic distributed systems are highly complex, sensitive to perturbations, and often behave “unpredictably”. P2P networks are a very good example of highly decentralized and distributed systems.
A behaviour of the networks is optimised using information processing in living systems. Bio-inspired intelligence allows dynamic networks to deal with abrupt changes in load, capacity and environment by using self-organisation, adaptation, decentralised control, distributed decisions making, and parallel actuation. Bio-inspired metaheuristics are a key features in optimization and robustness of dynamic distributed systems with swarming autonomous agents.
