The Wearable Robotics Association (WearRA) is pleased to partner with ASTM International to develop standards for exoskeletons and exosuits.
ASTM Meeting: March 28-29
Immediately following WearRAcon, ASTM will host their quarterly meeting. All WearRAcon attendees are welcome to attend. The ASTM Committee F48 on Exoskeletons and Exosuits was formed to develop voluntary consensus standards for exoskeletons and exosuits. Subcommittees address safety, quality, performance, ergonomics and terminology for systems and components during the full life cycle of the product – from before usage, to maintenance, to disposal – including, security and information technology considerations. About ASTM F48:
The ASTM Committee F48 on Exoskeletons and Exosuits was formed in 2017 to develop voluntary consensus standards for these leading-edge technologies. Technical subcommittees address safety, quality, performance, ergonomics and terminology for systems and components during the full life cycle of the product – from before usage, to maintenance, to disposal – including security and information technology considerations. The activities cover industrial, emergency response, medical, military and consumer applications covering passive and active systems, enhancing and decreasing effects systems, as well as systems with physical and cognitive integration. The Committee meets two times a year, over 2-3 days of technical meetings, typically in spring and fall. F48 standards will be published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Volume 15.08. The committee has developed two standards to date; additional work items are also under development.
Approved Standards
F3358 – Standard Practice for Labeling and Information for Exoskeletons and Exosuits
