World Robot Conference: with the upgrade of globalization, the Belt and Road initiative will boost Chinese robot industry

“Currently, with the new round of technological revolution facing great breakthroughs, and evolution of international division of labor accelerating, the Belt and Road initiative has laid a good platform for China's future internationalization and provided an excellent chance for Chinese robot industry to go global. Therefore, we need to accomplish top-level designs and resource integration to be an integral whole to open up the international market, rather than to simply let each enterprise to go global alone.” On the Belt and Road Thematic Forum of WRC 2017 held on August 22, QU Daokui, founder and president of SIASUN Robot & Automation Co., Ltd., made the above remarks.

With further promotion of the Belt and Road initiative, more and more domestic and foreign enterprises have been involved, including manufacturing enterprises of engineering machinery, trading enterprises, financial enterprises and leading-edge enterprises of technological innovation represented by robot industry.

As was commented by ZHANG Boxu, director general of Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, with deepened implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy, China has achieved a continuous comprehensive strength an improving innovation capacity, and a rapid development in the robot industry. “In recent years, the average annual growth of China's industrial robot sales has been up to 35%. 72,000 industrial robots have been produced domestically in 2016, accounting for about a quarter of global production. Voice recognition and image recognition have reached the international advanced level; key components like controller and servo motor have made major breakthroughs. China has gained some advantages in the field of robot components, which propel China to transform into a leading power of robot application and innovation.”

Besides, ZHANG Boxu took Beijing for example to introduce that in 2025, the robot industry income in the city is expected to reach above 60 billion yuan; world's leading collaborative innovation system of robot technology will be formed, with artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge areas achieving a world-leading level, systems and software reaching an international advanced level, and world's leading innovation and application base for robots being completed.

"Such a large market is bound to lead the industry to further development." said XIN Guobin, vice-minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

SUN Lining, dean of School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Soochow University, viewed that new demands would also be generated from the strengthened industrialization. “There will be demands for equipment automation and artificial intelligence in China’s transformation process led by the Belt and Road initiative. Thus, if we can well grasp the breakthrough point, there is a great chance to promote industrial transfer and technological export.”

QU Daokui, founder and president of SIASUN Robot & Automation Co., Ltd., held the same view. He expressed that the Belt and Road initiative provided a good platform for the globalization development of Chinese enterprises, driving Chinese robot enterprises to go global quickly.

QU Daokui added that SIASUN had made a lot of attempts in this area. “Along the Belt and Road, there are customers both of research and development business customers and of other kinds, which has already formed the export of a variety of technology, products and engineering. Our products, including industrial robots, mobile robots and sets of system solutions, have been exported to such countries as Russia, the United States, Uzbekistan, Canada, India, and Malaysia.”

"In addition, we have also tried to build a new fully digitalized factory to produce robots by robots.” QU Daokui revealed, “in the future, this new intelligent manufacturing model can be completely and directly introduced into countries along the Belt and Road, integrating intelligent plants, inspection, processing and certification to go global.”

It is known that SIASUN is working with Israel to build a Sino-Israel research institute in Guangzhou. The research groups of both sides plan to construct a new innovation platform, and to closely collaborate with different foreign alliances and associations, thus to design various corresponding standard systems for a new generation of robots.

Similar cooperation is common. According to the introduction of Vitaly Nedelskiy, president of the Russia Robotics Association, a China-based medical robot center was jointly constructed by China and Russia in June 2016, intended for research, design, software development and production. “Then we will have more cooperation with Chinese partners, including China's medical institutions.”

Vitaly Nedelskiy said that Russia is very willing to cooperate with China in robotics to jointly develop the global robotic market.
