The Wits SB Committee for 2010:

 
  • Chair: Andrew Paverd
  • Andrew is in the final year of his Electrical Engineering undergraduate degree at Wits His technical interests are in the fields of mobile and embedded devices and wireless communication networks. His final project in 2010 will be related to the optimisation of GSM networks through the feedback of crowd-sourced service quality information.

    Andrew joined the IEEE in 2008 and served as the secretary of the Wits SB in 2009. He was also a student member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE). Outside of the computer lab, Andrew enjoys playing tennis for the University and is an active and founding memeber of the Wits Latin Club.

  • Vice-Chair: Mikail Ansari
  • Treasurer: Craig Carlson
  • Craig is currently doing his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at Wits, looking at developing an algorithm capable of load forecasting for energy management. In english, that is: He is writting a program that can predict what is going to use electricity.

    Craig joined the IEEE in 2007. He also, shockingly enough, plays the bagpipes for Glen Allen Pipes and Drums.

  • Secretary: Keamogetswe Mokhantso
  • Keamo is in her final year of her Electrical Engineering undergraduate degree at Wits. She also worked for HBS as an intern at the international Broadcast center of the FIFA 2010 world cup. She has also served in the sub-commitee of the SRC Club and society.
    Keamo is a big fan of Grey's Anatomy and also plays netball for Spar South Rand Distribution Centre.

  • Marlize completed her Biomedical Engineering degree in 2007 and Electrical Engineering degree in 2009. She is now doing her Masters in the Machines Research group.

  • Leonard is in his third year of his Electrical Engineering undergraduate degree at Wits. He joined the IEEE in 2008.

  • Events Officer: Tyrone Naidoo
  • Tyrone is currently doing his final year Electrical Engineering degree at Wits. His final year project is Biometric Authentication using Iris Recognition. This is like a finger print scanner that uses the eye. He joined the IEEE in 2010.

Wits SB Committee 2011

 

Towards the end of the 2010 acdemic year, the Wits IEEE Student Branch will be holding elections for the 2011 committee. All registered members of the Wits Student Branch are eligible to participate in this process, either as voters or as candidates for committee positions. This will take place at a General Meeting of the Student Branch to which all members will be invited. The date for this meeting has not yet been finalised but it will take place shortly before the start of the final examinations period. You will be notified well in advance when the date is confirmed. If you are interested in taking on a more active role within the Wits Student Branch, this is the place to start.
