8:50-11:15 Historical Walking Tour of Calgary

Calgary is steeped in the excitement and the lore of the Old West. Stephen Avenue teams with ghosts of Cowboys, cattle barons, Aboriginal people, oil and gas czars and red-coated Mounties.

In 1875, the North West Mounted Police (Mounties) were ordered to establish a fort in the vicinity of the Bow River named Fort Calgary from the Gaelic meaning, "clear running water". You will be introduced to the city's early landmarks and the forces that shaped our city. A tour guide will accompany each group of eight. The route is flat, accessible and led by an enthusiastic retiree.

11:30-12:45 Lunch at Red Water Grill

Take the C Train (LRT) 3 stops to Stampede Grounds to

1:15-2:15 Grain Museum

Agriculture was an important force in the settlement and resulting development of the Canadian West. The grain industry continues to be an important force in our economy. Our guide(s) will tell the evolution of grains and their industry using working models, artifacts, demonstrations and video.
