Product Safety Certification

Updated 18 Jan 2010

The field of interest of the Society is the theory, design, development and implementation of product safety engineering for electronic and electro-mechanical equipment and devices. This includes the theoretical study and practical application of analysis techniques, testing methodologies, conformity assessments, and hazard evaluations.

Our mission is to strive for the advancement of the theory and practice of applied electrical and electronic engineering as applied to product safety and of the allied arts and sciences.

Welcome to the web page of the IEEE's Product Safety Engineering Society. This society targets design professionals and design engineers interested in electrical product safety. The IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society addresses safety engineering for equipment and devices used in the scientific, engineering, industrial, commercial and residential arenas. It allows engineers and other technical professionals an opportunity to discuss and disseminate technical information, to enhance professional skills, and to provide outreach to engineers, students and others with an interest in the field.  Find out about membership and the benefits of being an IEEE and Product Safety Engineering Society member.  Why be a member?  Click the link to find out!

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

The Product Safety Engineering Society and the EMC Society are happy to announce that for a limited time, members of either Society can receive free first-time trial membership for 2010 in the other Society.  This offer is only extended for first-time membership and is only free for the 2010 membership cycle.  So PSES members who have never been members of the EMC Society can get free membership in EMCS for 2010 (and vice versa).  You must be a full IEEE member.  We are working with the IEEE to set up a special website for signing up.  Details will be posted here when available and an email blast will be sent out to both Society's members.  A form is available for EMCS members to sign up for their free 2010 PSES membership.  Restrictions apply, see form for details.

The Product Safety Engineering Society sends out email notices using IEEE email services.  If you selected the "do not contact" option for your email account then you will never receive anything from the IEEE or the Product Safety Engineering Society including newsletter announcements or other correspondence.  Please insure that your email address is up to date and you allow the IEEE to contact you via email.

The Product Safety Engineering Newsletter

Current issues of the Product Safety Engineering Newsletter are available on the Society Members Only page of this web site. Back issues of Product Safety Engineering Society newsletters (older than one year) are posted on the Newsletter page and are accessible by non-members.

Also on the Newsletter page are issues of the old Product Safety Newsletter from 1988 through 1998 that have been collected by members of the Product Safety Engineering Society and provided as a service to the product safety community.

The IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society is seeking authors to write articles and papers for our Newsletter. Refer to the information page or download the author's guide.  To advertise in the newsletter download the advertising brochure.

Social Networking Sites

LinkedInLinkedIn is a business contact networking website. It specializes in interconnecting a network of experienced professionals from around the world.  The Product Safety Engineering Society created a group on LinkedIn in March 2008 and there are currently over 200 members of that group. The primary uses of LinkedIn by PSES is to promote the Society, allow members already on LinkedIn to expand their network, post or look for jobs, and hold online discussions with likeminded individuals. IEEE membership is not required to join the group. There are other compliance related groups on LinkedIn as well groups for colleges, companies, and more. Do a search for the group “IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society” and join us on www.LinkedIn.com. It is great resource for expanding your own LinkedIn network.

FacebookThe Product Safety Engineering Society has a group on Facebook.  We are listed as a group under the Professional Organizations category.  Do a search for the group “IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society” on www.facebook.com and help us expand our presence and get the word out about our Society.

We have decided to discontinue our Ning site as it did not attract any activity.  Our group on LinkedIn has proven to be very popular and we will concentrate our support on that site.

If you are interested in assisting us in the administration of one of the groups on the social networking sites like LinkedIn or Facebook or the administration of the Ning site, please contact our  or one of the existing group administrators. Responsibilities include accepting new member requests and monitoring sites for appropriateness of material submitted by users. The ideal candidate would be someone who frequents and is active in a particular group or site.
