Welcome to IEEE SENSORS 2008
On behalf of the IEEE SENSORS 2008 Organizing Committee, we present to you the Electronic Proceedings of the Seventh IEEE Sensors Conference 2008 held in Lecce, Italy. This Annual International Conference was established and sponsored by the IEEE Sensors Council, an organization currently consisting of 25 member societies. Since its inception, the Conference has enjoyed an atmosphere of high quality technical presentations on a broad range of multidisciplinary topics related to sensors and their applications.
Extending the tradition that began in 2002 in Orlando, Florida, USA, this Conference on sensors attracts over 600 participants including researchers and practitioners in the sensor field, sensor technology and application from around the world. This year, we had 940 submissions from 55 countries, from which 411 abstracts (226 oral and 185 posters) were selected for presentation at the Conference covering theory, design, device technology, and applications of sensors and sensing systems. To accommodate this broad range of interests, the Seventh IEEE Sensors Conference 2008 was organized in four parallel oral tracks and two dedicated poster sessions.
This electronic version of the technical digest is an IEEE publication that will be part of the IEEE Electronic Library, and is available to more than 2 million people around the world. In addition, many extended papers will be submitted by the author(s) to the IEEE Sensors Journal based on the proceeding's contributions.
We thank all authors for submitting their latest work, thus contributing to the excellent technical contents of the Conference. Especially, we would like to thank the individuals and organizations that worked together diligently to make this Conference a success, and to the 127 members of the Technical Program Committee for the thorough and careful review of the abstracts. It is important to point out that the great majority of the efforts in organizing the technical program of the Conference came from volunteers. Their commitment and dedication to this Conference is the reason for its success today.
