Message From Vice - Chair Message From Secretary Message From Treasure
Dear Colleagues and Members of the IEEE Kolkata Section,
It is both a great honor and a humbling responsibility to assume the role of Chair of the IEEE Kolkata Section. On behalf of the incoming Executive Committee, and also on my personal behalf, I sincerely thank the members of the Section for the trust and confidence they have placed in us.
This year marks a significant milestone in the history of our Section. For the first time, the entire Executive Committee has been determined through a democratic election process. The enthusiastic participation of our members in this process reflects the strong engagement and commitment within our IEEE community. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Election Coordination Committee, Section Advisors, Immediate Past Chair and all volunteers who worked diligently to ensure the smooth conduct of the election. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the outgoing Executive Committee, various working committees, and all members whose sincere efforts have helped strengthen the Section over the years.
As Chair, my vision is to build a dynamic, inclusive, and future-ready IEEE Kolkata Section, moving forward while honoring our proud legacy and advancing the shared values of our community, guided by five key pillars.
The first pillar is member engagement and growth, with special focus on students and young professionals, affinity and special interest groups. We aim to strengthen mentorship programs, enhance industry-academia interaction, and organize hands-on technical workshops that help members build practical skills and professional networks.
The second pillar is technical excellence. We will work toward strengthening chapter activities, promoting interdisciplinary themes, and encouraging high-quality conferences, workshops, and Distinguished Lecture programs, Milestone events across organizational units within the Section and its Subsections.
The third pillar is support for organizing events. Since a large proportion of our members come from engineering colleges, we will also work toward simplifying the rules, procedures, and requirements for organizing technically co-sponsored events, such as conferences and seminars by academic institutions. Our goal is to encourage wider participation and make it easier for institutions to collaborate with IEEE Kolkata Section.
The fourth pillar focuses on outreach and societal impact. IEEE initiatives in our Section will increasingly align with regional and national priorities ensuring that our technical expertise contributes meaningfully to society.
The fifth pillar is organizational strengthening. This includes transparent governance, effective financial planning, and stronger collaboration with local units and Subsections, as well as with IEEE MGA, the IEEE India Council, and global IEEE initiatives. Greater emphasis will be placed on Subsections by increasing the number of events and activities organized there, including the hosting of Executive Committee meetings.
I look forward to working closely with all volunteers, chapters, student branches, subsections, and members to further strengthen the IEEE Kolkata Section and to create greater value for our community.
This may sound a little dramatic, perhaps even filmi, but I feel compelled to say it. This year, the members of the IEEE Kolkata Section have elected a new Executive Committee. In the years ahead, another committee will be entrusted with this responsibility, and thereafter yet another. Leadership will change, and individuals will come and go.
However, the IEEE Kolkata Section must continue to move forward, evolve, and prosper. Institutions endure far beyond individuals, and it is our shared responsibility to strengthen the foundation so that those who come after us inherit a Section that is more vibrant, more inclusive, and more impactful.
Let us work together to ensure that the spirit, integrity, and momentum of the Kolkata Section continue to flourish for many years to come.
