IEEE Workshop on MEMS, Microfluidics & Microsystems with hands-on training in Device Simulation & Microfabrication Process was jointly organized by IEEE Student Branch, WIE Affinity group of IIT Kharagpur and IEEE EMB Student Club IIT Kharagpur. The workshop aimed to provide an excellent forum to interact and share ideas on the MEMS and microelectronics system, technologies, emerging applications with hands-on simulation and fabrication procedure to the students, researchers and faculties working in the area of MEMS sensing and technology. This was a three-day workshop where experts from industries and academia were invited to share their knowledge in the respective fields.
The workshop was planned in collaboration with industrial participation from COMSOL (India Private Limited) and academic participation from
IIT Kharagpur, IISc Bangalore. Initially, pioneers in field of MEMS and Microsystems provided basic understanding of MEMS and Microsystems technique,
evolution of MEMS and its revolutionized applications. Following this, experts from IISc Bangalore will conducted sessions on basic principle
underlying MEMS design, development and fabrication. This was followed by lectures on different MEMS and Microsystems-Inertial MEMS,
RF MEMS, BIO-MEMS and Microfluidics with an insight to interfacial circuits for MEMS signal conditioning. Following these,
COMSOL group conducted sessions on basic design and simulation techniques in COMSOL Multiphysics.
They also extended COMSOL session by giving a understanding towards design of application oriented MEMS devices.
This was followed by a hands-on session in laboratory where participants were familiarized with
various microfabrication processes and characterization techniques. Finally, an overview of
current advances in MEMS and Microsystems within the institute was provided with application point of view. |
