4 July 2024: IEEE PES Technical Talk on 'Network Access Quantities: Summary and Lessons Learned'
The IEEE PES/PELS WA Chapter organised a talk by Lucas Zieland from AEMO on a new aspect of the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) in Western Australia. The WEM includes a Reserve Capacity Mechanism (RCM) to ensure sufficient generation and storage during peak load conditions. The WEM has recently transitioned to a Constrained Access regime, and the RCM has been updated to reflect Constrained Access by including the calculation of Network Access Quantities (NAQ). A NAQ represents the typical availability of the network to each facility during peak conditions. This presentation summarises how NAQs are calculated and applied in the WEM, and offers lessons learned during implementation and operation of the scheme.
