Mailing List

The Oakland-East Bay Chapter of the IEEE Communicatins Society maintains a mailing list on the IEEE Majordomo list manager for those persons interested in receiving notices by of upcoming meetings and occasional other information of interest to the chapter. The mailing list is available to anyone interested in this information. You do not need to be a chapter member to subscribe.

Subscribers are responsible for subscribing, unsubscribing and maintaining their own information on the mailing list. If you change your email address, please remember to update this list so you will continue to receive our notices. See below for instructions.

PRIVACY POLICY
We use your email address solely for sending you notices and reminders about upcoming meetings, and possibly for occasional other information of interest to the Oakland-East Bay chapter of the IEEE Communications Society. It is used for no other purpose. We do not give out email addresses to other organizations or individuals, including other parts of the IEEE.

Also note that only members of the Chapter Executive Committee may send messages to the addresses on the mailing list. It is closed to all others. This will protect you from receiving spurious messages.

FORMATTING YOUR SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE MESSAGE:

1. ALL MESSAGES sent to the IEEE Majordomo server MUST be in Plain Text. Ensure that your message is not formatted as Rich Text, HTML or anything other than Plain Text. Otherwise, the server will not recognize your commands and will send an error email message to you.

2. If, after checking the above, you still have trouble with the below commands, send a note to our chapter email address, oeb@comsoc.org.

3. Send all messages to majordomo@majordomo.ieee.org. Please do not put your commands on the subject line; Majordomo does not process commands in the subject line. You may put multiple Majordomo commands in the same mail message. Put each command on a line by itself.

4. If you use a "signature block" at the end of your mail, Majordomo may mistakenly believe each line of your message is a command; you will then receive spurious error messages. To keep this from happening, either put a line starting with a hyphen ("-") before your signature, or put a line with just the word

  • end
on it in the same place. This will stop the Majordomo software from processing your signature as bad commands.

SUBSCRIBING TO THE COMSOC OEB CHAPTER MAILING LIST

To receive list mail at the address from which you're sending your message, simply say "subscribe" followed by the list's name:

  • subscribe comsoc-oeb
If for some reason you wish to have the mailings go to a different address (a friend's address, a specific other system on which you have an account, or an address which is more correct than the one that automatically appears in the "From:" header on the mail you send), you would add that address to the command. For instance, if you're sending a request from your work account, but wish to receive "comsoc-oeb " mail at your personal account (for which we will use "jqpublic@my-isp.com" as an example), you'd put the line

  • subscribe comsoc-oeb jqpublic@my-isp.com
in the mail message body.

Upon subscribing, you should receive an introductory message, containing list policies and features. Save this message for future reference; it will also contain exact directions for unsubscribing. If you lose the intro mail and would like another copy of the policies, send this message to majordomo@majordomo.ieee.org:

  • intro comsoc-oeb

UNSUBSCRIBING FROM THE COMSOC OEB CHAPTER MAILING LIST

Your original intro message contains the exact command which should be used to remove your address from the list. However, in most cases, you may simply send the command "unsubscribe" followed by the list name:

  • unsubscribe comsoc-oeb
(This command may fail if your provider has changed the way your address is shown in your mail.)

To remove an address other than the one from which you're sending the request, give that address in the command:

  • unsubscribe comsoc-oeb jqpublic@my-isp.com

GENERAL HELP

To get a copy of a general Majordomo help message, send mail to majordomo@majordomo.ieee.org with a line saying

  • help
in the message body.

For general introductory information about the chapter email list, send the command:

  • info comsoc-oeb
