About Us

Student activities and affairs are represented at the regional level through a Regional Student Activities Chair (RSAC) and a Regional Student Representative (RSR) that are members of the Region 1 Board of Governors. Your RSAC is also a member of the Region 1 Executive Committee. These positions are designed to represent your interests as IEEE Student Members.

Should you see a need for changes at the regional level, or for resources in your Section, Student Branch, or Student Branch Chapter, these are the people to contact. They have experience in both the operation of IEEE Student Branches and the training of officers in those branches.

On the left side of the page, you are able to click to see which members are under what committees.

Jonathan Avila -- jonathanavila@ieee.org

I'm Jonny, Vice Chair of IEEE R1 SAC, and IEEE R1 SPAC Chair for 2014-2015. I graduated from NJIT in 2013, B.S. Electrical Engineering, and am currently working as an Electrical Engineer for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. After serving as IEEE NJIT Student Branch President from 2011-2013, I wanted to get involved with Student Activities regionally in IEEE because I want to make a difference where I can. Hopefully, with the help of my fellow volunteers, we can bridge the gap between various student branches in the region, and create a cohesive network for student members to share ideas, experiences, and knowledge! I enjoy meeting new people, and occasionally playing guitar and video games to relax, although with so much to do outside of work, my Playstation has been collecting dust! Feel free to ask me anything!

Lance Doiron -- ldoiron17@gmail.com

I am the IEEE Region 1 Student Activities Committee Industry Relations Executive. I am an Electrical Engineering senior undergraduate at the University of Maine. I was the IEEE chapter president from 2012-2013 and have been the IEEE mentor chair at Umaine from 2012 to present. I wanted to expand my involvement with IEEE and the Region 1 Student Activities Committee was the perfect way to do that. I am looking forward to creating a more active and involved Region 1 and getting to know more students and professionals throughout the region. In my downtime I enjoy playing guitar and outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
