Dr. Maldague is a full professor and head of the Electrical and Computing Engineering Department of Université Laval, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. He has trained over 25 graduate students (M.Sc. and Ph.D.). His research interests are in infrared thermography, nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques and vision/digital systems for industrial inspection. He has authored or co-authored more than one hundred papers and several books on these topics. He is also a Canada Chair holder in the field of infrared vision. The courses he teaches are in the fields of digital circuits and micro controllers. In 2003 he was honoured with the IEEE Canada Archambault Award for his dedication to engineering.

Two of his books are now part of the body of knowledge of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) on infrared NDE. He was also the technical editor for the first ASNT handbook on thermal and infrared techniques.

He also organizes the International Advanced Research Workshops on Signal Processing for NDE every four years. These Workshops are now known as the Quebec’s Workshop Series within the community. The series started in 1987.

Dr. Maldague is also active on different international committees such as the Quantitative Infrared Thermography (QIRT) Working Group, the Research Council of ASNT, the Thermosense Program Committee (he was Thermosense chair and co-chair in 2002 and 2003 respectively), and the QCAV Committee among others. He is also one of the directors of Quebec’s Provincial Chapter of the Canadian Society for Nondestructive Testing (CSNDT) and vice-president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Quebec City Section. From 2003 to 2008, he was Co-Editor of the Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is currently an Associate Editor.

Before joining Université Laval in 1989, Dr. Maldague was with the National Research Council, Industrial Materials Institute, Boucherville, Quebec, Canada, working on NDE techniques. Dr. Maldague is a member of CARNDE, CSNDT, ASNT, IEEE, and of Quebec's professional engineers' association (OIQ). He was born in 1959, is married and has three children. Dr. Maldague received the Canadian Governor General's Medal in 1978.
