The IEEE

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

IEEE is the acronym of the Institute of Electrical, Electronic and related technical professional association dedicated to advancing world of technology related to electricity. It is the largest international non-profit organization, with more than 365,000 professionals in new technologies, in nearly 150 countries.

Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority and most prestigious in the technical areas derived from the original power: from computer engineering, biomedical technology and aerospace, to areas of power, control, telecommunications and consumer electronics, among others.

Its creation dates back to 1884, counting among its founding personalities of the likes of Thomas Alva Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Franklin Leonard Pope. In 1963, IEEE adopted the name of the merged associations AIEE (American Institute of Electrical Engineers) and the IRE (Institute of Radio Engineers).

The institute strives to encourage, organize and sponsor technical activities worldwide. The main objective is to promote creativity, development and integration, sharing and applying advances in theory and practice in the field of electronics, electrical engineering and computer science and engineering. For the benefit of humanity and the professionals.

The IEEE sponsors technical conferences and local branches of activities related to the progress of science related to electrical engineering in general. Available to members, educational programs concerning the latest developments in the field, helping to keep abreast of the technology of today and tomorrow, which moldará life of us all. Today almost one quarter of all technical documents in the world, for electricity, electronics, computing and engineering, are published by the IEEE.

Who serves the IEEE?
Members attending the IEEE as a source of technical and professional information, resources and services. To stimulate interest in the engineering profession, the IEEE has student members from colleges and universities around the world.

Other important links include members and organizations that purchase IEEE products and participate in conferences or other IEEE programs.

In January, there were more than 1.5 million documents in IEEE / IEE Electronic Library. Visit IEEE Xplore (R) for daily totals.

The IEEE publishes a total of 128 transactions, journals and magazines. The IEEE sponsors more than 300 conferences each year. The IEEE Standards Association has more than 8350 people and nearly 60 corporate members.
