James Farmer Undergraduate Student of Electrical Engineering

I've been a proud IEEE member since 2014.  I’m a former military service member with 12 years in the United States Army, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineer, a few hobbies I currently participate in are robotics building and Arduino projects. I enjoy solving problems and researching new ideas, I hope to contribute to IEEE with my passion for technological innovation. My goal is to become an engineer in some capacity, which enables me to make an impact of some sort.

James Farmer- Student Senate Rep, IEEE
James Farmer Undergraduate Student in Electrical Engineer

I am currently in my senior year of the Bachelors of Science program for Electrical Engineering. I have already received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Art, but after spending many years as a stay at home mom, when I became a single parent I decided to pursue technology and engineering in order to better support my children. I have been loving the electrical engineering program and getting to the point of taking the theory and applying it to broader real life applications and projects. As a person with a passion for tinkering, puzzles, observing patterns, and creating things, I am glad to be a part of the CTU IEEE Student Branch. I am looking forward to the projects and events that the group will participate in in order to help the engineering student body develop the skills and knowledge to create, innovate, and succeed.

Profile:

I've been a proud IEEE member since 1982.  Being retired military with over 26 years in the United States Air Force, Dr. Santiago has been involved in university level education since 1984 as a faculty member and Director of Personnel at the US Air Force Academy (1984-1989). Professor Santiago is an electrical engineer, manager, and executive with more than 30 years of leadership and aerospace experience in technical program management, acquisition development and operations research support.

He has over 40 published papers and/or technical presentations.  Professor Santiago spearheaded over 40 international scientific and engineering conferences/workshops as a steering committee member while assigned in Europe. Dr Santiago has solid experience in many engineering disciplines and missions, including: control and modeling of large flexible space structures, communications system, electro-optics, high-energy lasers, missile seekers/sensors for precision guided munitions, image processing/recognition, information technologies, space, air and missile warning, missile defense, and homeland defense.

He has taught a total of over 40 different classes in his career, including: numerous graduate courses in electrical and systems engineering as well as teaching undergraduate courses in electrical engineering, physics, and mathematics.

As an entrepreneur,  he's continuing to work on implementing internet technology and processes for web-based and distance engineering education.  His efforts led him to being found on YouTube to write a book for the popular Dummies series brand by Wiley: "Circuit Analysis for Dummies".  He will be developing videos designed around his dummies book including follow-on topics not covered in the book.

Professor Santiago is married to the former Emerenciana Manaois Figuerres.
