The increase of life expectancy leads modern societies to develop new environments to improve the autonomy and independence of elderly or disabled people. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies are the way to improve the quality of life, and are particularly a good alternative to traditional hospitals in order to promote early discharge and help patients and elderly people to live autonomously in a comfortable and safe environment.
This special session gathers and promotes papers describing recent outcome of new theories and technologies from robotics and automation, that can address the many issues raised by AAL.
