Regional PACE Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of the Region 5 PACE Chair is to promote professional activities within the Sections of Region 5. The Region 5 PACE Chair also serves a liaison role to facilitate communication between section members and the IEEE-USA.

Specific functions of the Region 5 PACE Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

1. Represent PACE as a standing member of the Region 5 Executive committee structure, and, if feasible, establish a PACE Committee as a standing committee of the Region structure (which may require a bylaw change). Each Regional PACE Coordinator should be assisted by a team of program specialists who keep abreast of IEEE programs in their areas and support Sections, Councils, Societies, and Chapters that wish to undertake local activities. These program coordinators and the Regional PACE Coordinator constitute the Regional PACE Committee. The PACE Program Coordinators should be responsible for the following areas:
  State Government Activities (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  Career Enhancement Activities (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  Employment Assistance Activities (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  Pre-college Education Activities (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  Professional Education Activities (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  Student Professional Awareness Activities (SPAC) (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  Technical Policy Activities (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  Member Professional Awareness Conference (MPAC) (IEEE-USA Committee Member)
  National Engineers Week Activities (NEW)
  Young Professional Activities & Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD)
  Awards - IEEE-USA Awards, Regional Activities Board Awards, and Regional Awards
  The Program Coordinators are appointed by the Regional Director with recommendations from the Regional PACE Coordinator. They serve in the same capacity on the Regional Director's Committee, and as the Regional delegate to a corresponding IEEE-USA committee. Detailed descriptions of the coordinator's responsibilities are attached.
  The regional budgets of each of the PACE Committee members is determined by the Region 5 Executive Committee and the Regional Director. The detailed budget for each committee chairperson is provided in the Region 5 Annual Budget.

2. Advise, encourage, assist, and support Section PACE Chairmen in the Region in their efforts to:
  A. Represent PACE as a standing member of the Section structure, and, if feasible, establish a PACE Committee as a standing committee of the Section structure (which may require a bylaw change). Each Section PACE Coordinator should be assisted by a team of program specialists who keep abreast of IEEE programs in their areas and support and conduct local activities within the Sections, Councils, Societies, and Chapters. These program coordinators and the Section PACE Chairperson constitute the Section PACE Committee. The PACE Program Chairs should establish bi-directional links with their counter part on the Regional PACE Committee and with their support should be responsible for the following areas:
    State Government Activities
    Career Enhancement Activities and Employment Assistance Activities
    Pre-college Education Activities
    National Engineers Week Activities
    Student Professional Awareness Activities and MPAC
    Technical Policy Activities
    Life Member and Member Advancement
    Professional Education Activities
    Student Professional Awareness Activities and Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD)
    Awards - IEEE-USA Awards, Regional Activities Board Awards, and Regional Awards
  B. Establish a two-way communication network to facilitate local and national response to critical IEEE-USA and Technology Policy Council issues.
  C. Participate in pre-college education efforts, National Engineers Week activities, and allied activities within the Section that could benefit from PACE collaboration.
  D. D. Submit an annual plan of Section's PACE activities to the Regional PACE Coordinator (by December 1 each year).
  E. Submit an annual report on the Section's PACE activities to the Regional PACE Coordinator (by December 1 each year).
  F. Identify an individual within the Section, Council, Chapter or Student Branch that has demonstrated exemplary service to advancement of the goals of IEEE and IEEE-USA and prepare and nomination for these individuals for one of the IEEE, IEEE-USA, IEEE-RAB, Regional, or Section Awards.
2. Design, develop, and implement projects to enhance professional activities within the Sections, Councils, Chapters and Student Branches. Projects suitable for Regional annual meetings or conferences include IEEE-USA information exhibits; professional activities workshops; M-PACS and S-PACS.
3. Provide or assure PACE leader training for new Section PACE leaders and establish a continuing training process to alert Section PACE leaders to new PACE project ideas for Section PACE activities.
4. Review, endorse, and forward requests from Section PACE Chairmen for Regional Professional Activities Support Funds to support Section PACE activities.
5. Prepare and submit an annual funding requests report, with supporting documentation, for PACE project funding by December each year so that these requests may be included in the PACE Regional Activities Committee's annual budget projection.
6. Submit an annual report on Regional PACE activities to IEEE-USA in July of each year, prior to the annual national PACE Workshop.
7. Support and attend the annual IEEE-USA PACE Conference and encourage Section PACE Chair participation by:
  A. Communicating the importance of the attendance of Section PACE chairs at the IEEE-USA PACE Conference.
  B. Coordinating funding requests for funding of PACE chair travel expenses to attend the IEEE-USA PACE Conference.
  C. Assisting the PACE Conference committee, if requested, with the PACE Conference workshops. Host Regional Section PACE chair meetings at the conference.
8. Contact the Regional Director in November of each year to suggest the appointment of the Regional PACE Committee Coordinators for the coming year. Confirm the appointments by December 15 and report the results to the PACE Regional Activities Committee Chairman by January 1, along with the Section PACE appointments reported by the Section PACE Chairmen.
