Conference Highlights The 2007 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting is a gathering of experts who work and conduct research in the industrial application of electrical systems. The 2007 IAS Annual Meeting will have a full program of tutorials, technical papers, and working group meetings during the five days of the conference. Sunday, the first day of the conference, will feature Industry-specific tutorials. On Monday through Thursday, nearly 400 technical papers will be presented by a wide variety of international authors. The papers and tutorials will cover applications-related topics such as lighting, power systems, mining, metals, appliances, electrostatics, automation control, electrical drives, power converters, and electric machines. There will also be be workshops for people interested in serving as Society volunteers in areas such as Chapters and Awards. Another important component of the conference are the committee meetings devoted to developing and updating the IEEE Color Book Standards, which provide information about electrical power production, distribution and utilization in industrial and commercial power systems. The meeting will feature two social events that honor members of the IEEE Industry Applications Society. The Awards Luncheon on Tuesday recognizes the winners of the Transactions Prize Papers Awards, the Magazine Prize Papers Awards, and the Chapter Awards. The President’s Dinner on Wednesday evening honors the newly-elected IEEE Fellows, the Outstanding Young Member, and the winners of the IAS Distinguished Service Award and IAS Outstanding Achievement Award. Two additional social events are the Welcome Reception on Sunday evening and the luncheon for Zucker Travel Students on Monday. Tours of the city will be available for attendees and spouses. Conference Hotel The meeting will be held in the Sheraton New Orleans, one of New Orleans’ premier hotels. Its 1100 hotel rooms and 54 individual meeting rooms make it an ideal location for conferences and conventions. The hotel is located near many of New Orleans’ most famous attractions, including the French Quarter, Canal Street, and the Riverwalk Marketplace.
