Towards dynamic and robust locomotion for legged robots in complex environments

Objectives

Dynamic and robust locomotion is one of the key challenges in legged robots. Legged robots may not only take over the dull, dirty and dangerous tasks from humans, but also may provide physical services that will be scarce in rapidly aging society. Although walking is an easy task for most people, it is quite difficult for legged robots to achieve dynamic and robust walking in complex environments like humans. Scientists and engineers seem to have a poor conscious understanding of how we achieve it.

The aim of this workshop is to provide insight to address the following questions: 1) How can we predict human locomotion from basic principles?  2) How to design more-dynamic legged robots? 3) How to achieve more-robust locomotion in daily environments? Answering these questions will not only help the science of understanding human locomotion, but also help thedesign and control of useful legged robots.
