Call for Nominations for the 2021 Officer and Membership roles at the IEEE Western Australia Section Committee

2021 committee nominations

The IEEE is the largest professional engineering organisation in the world, with over 400,000 members worldwide. Western Australia has over 600 IEEE members.

The IEEE Western Australia (WA) Section Committee represents the IEEE in WA and plans for the programs and activities of the IEEE and its members in WA. The term of the officers and members in this Committee is one year.

The term of the elected officers for the Committee ends at the end of December, and the newly elected officers take office from January 1st of the following year.

The IEEE WA Section is inviting nominations from all local IEEE members to join and serve on its committees in 2021.

The main officer roles are: Chair, Chair-elect, Vice-chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. The Committee also consists of many members who can take various roles depending on their interest, availability, and experience. As a member of the committee, you will get the opportunity to work with other IEEE volunteers and provide suggestions and feedback for improving the IEEE visibility in the State or benefiting the local IEEE members. The amount of time that you devote to volunteering is up to you and the role that you might enjoy, either because it suits your existing skills or you would like some challenges. It can be a foot in the door to other IEEE volunteer activities locally and internationally plus career progression and recognition.

IEEE WA Section meetings

WA_Section_meeting_2019-04-30

The IEEE WA section meets approximately every 6 weeks to discuss both operational items and long term goals.

All of the sub-units are represented at the section meeting - technical chapters, student branches, WIE, and YP. Volunteers also manage other specialised portfolios like web page, awards, and industry liaison.

The 2019 meetings are hosted at Murdoch University. On this occasion the meeting was hosted at Curtin University and a new pull up banner was on display. The pull up banner and the fabric banner are part of the sections plans to promote the IEEE brand at events. A proposal to form a new Industrial Electronics chapter was also discussed and approved at this meeting.

All of the entities are always looking for new volunteers to help. Please contact the section chairperson Harry McDonald at harry.mcdonald{at}ieee.org for further information.
