16 June: Curtin University EECMS awards 2023

This awards event recognises student achievements for the 2022 academic year. It was hosted at Curtin University on the 16th June and the MC was Prof David Davidson. This awards ceremony this year for IEEE was confined to only the School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) and physically presented. Previous years awards had been disrupted by Covid and had been virtual events.

The IEEE WA section and the joint IEEE WA PES/PELS chapter have been long term supporters.

The IEEE WA section prize award went to Mr Nisarg Patel (the Electrical Power engineering student with Outstanding Achievement in the Core Second Year Units in the Bachelor of Engineering Degree program).

It was presented by Mr Harry McDonald the IEEE WA Section treasurer 2023.

The IEEE WA joint PES/PELS award went to Mr Samuel Sie Huai Lau (the Electrical Power engineering student with the Highest Aggregate of Marks in the Two Units ELEN3001 Power Systems Analysis and ETEN 3003 Power Electronics).

It was presented by Dr Tara Mehr the IEEE WA joint PES/PELS chair 2023.

The awards event also provided an opportunity for the IEEE PES Outstanding Engineer Award 2022 to be awarded to Prof Ahmed Abu Siada. Prof Abu Siada was overseas so the award was received on his behalf by Prof David Davidson. Dr Tara Mehr also presented on behalf of IEEE PES/PELS chapter.

After the formal part of the award ceremony there were refreshments and opportunity for the award recipients and supporters to mingle socially.
