The IEEE Northern
Canada PES/IAS Chapter has invited Dr. Wilsun Xu of University
of Alberta to offer a 1-day tutorial. Come to join us in this
technical session entitled "Power System Fundamentals for
Distributed Generation and Power Quality Assessment" on
June 12, 2004, 8:30AM
to 2:00PM at
University of Alberta, ETLC building,
Room E1-018.

IAS/PES members will also be e-mailed all the details. Please

The IEEE IAS 2008
Conference will be held in Edmonton, Canada. Great technical
program as well as Rockies tours are being planned. Regarding
this event, Dr. Mark Nelms, the chair of
IEEE IAS Annual Meeting Steering Committee and Ms. Wendy Acevedo
of Courtesy Associates
visited Edmonton from April 29 to May 2, 2004. They paid a visit
to the Shaw Conference
Centre and the Westin Hotel to assess their
facilities for the conference. It is decided that the conference
will be held at the Westin
Hotel.
Dr. Nelms, Ms.
Acevedo and the Chapter also interviewed three local companies
to arrange touristic tours before and after the conference.
Two companies were selected for the local and out of town tours
respectively.

The IEEE Northern
Canada PES/IAS Chapter will hold the 2007 IEEE IAS I&CPS
Conference in Edmonton, Canada. The venue of this event will
be at the Fantasyland Hotel
or the Sutton
Place Hotel. More information will be available after the
details are finalized.

Dr. Mark Nelms
from Auburn University was prepared to gave an interesting talk
on April 29, 2004 about The
Solar Decathlon. Unfortunately, he missed his plane connection
due to an electrical malfunction of his first plane. The PES/IAS
Chapter members had a nice social event instead.

Happy New Year
to all and Happy Year of the Monkey
as well. Your IAS/PES have been busy getting ready for the upcoming
AGM. The nominations for this years committee have been approved
and can be viewed here. Come out and help shape
the future of IAS/PES by giving your input to the new executive.
We are also pleased
to announce that Dr. Don Koval will be giving a talk at the
AGM about the Blackout that effected Eastern
Canada and the United States last year. A summary of his talk
can be found here (doc).
