IROS Intro, Venue and Theme

The IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) is a premier flagship academic conference in robotics. For over 30-years, IROS has showcased leading-edge research. In hindsight, the work has been seminal, underpinning much of today’s global robotics industries, products and services. IROS continues to be the place to learn future directions and the latest approaches, designs, and outcomes, and network with the world’s leading roboticists.

It’s been 6-years since IROS was hosted in the United States (IROS 2014 Chicago). Robot technologies, industry, competitiveness and opportunities have greatly accelerated since then; IROS has grown to attract 3000+ attendees annually. To accommodate such growth, Las Vegas is the 2020 venue. The new Caesars’ Forum Convention Center will serve as the one-stop location for all IROS events - a 15-min drive from the McCarran International Airport (code: LAS) and 5-min walking distance of IROS-reserved hotels (Caesars, Linq, Flamingo and Harrah’s).

Las Vegas annually hosts the world-renown Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The lines between consumer electronics and consumer robotics are blurry especially given the advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and the Internet of Things (IOT). Examples include Smart Homes, Driverless Vehicles, 3D Manufacturing, Food Technology and Wearables. Thus a fitting them for IROS 2020 Vegas is "Consumer Robotics and Our Future"

IEEE Xplore, Page Format Guidelines, Templates

and Page Limits

As peer-reviewed archival publications, all accepted papers will be hosted on IEEE Xplore. Prospective authors are invited to submit high-quality papers representing original work. Submissions along the theme, as well as all areas of intelligent robots and applications, are welcome.

Please submit papers via the customary PaperPlaza process :

A. Format Guidelines

B. LaTex Template

C. MS Word Template

Papers should be six pages in length, with up to two extra pages (205 USD charge per extra page). Note: The maximum number of pages includes references. EG: if the paper's technical section is 6-pages, then one can include up to 2-pages of additional info e.g. references, for the stated cost (i.e. 205 USD/pages * 2 pages = 410 USD extra cost). A short video (1-minute maximum) can also be attached to your paper to supplement results (see Instructions below).

The IROS Conference Paper Review Board (like ICRA’s CEB) rigorously reviews all submissions and then through the IROS 2020 Senior Program Committee to render acceptance decisions. Best Paper Awards in various categories are also selected by their respective committees. A list of 2019 IROS Awardees and Finalists can be view here.

Instructions: Authors and Submission Process

All papers must be in English and submitted electronically in PDF (up to 6 MB) format via PaperPlaza. To ensure formatting compliance (e.g. margins, fonts and size) the templates should be used (links provided above).

A 1-minute video (up to 10 MB) can be added to supplement your paper. Videos are not mandatory. Rather it’s an opportunity to augment one’s paper to visibly showcase results. MPG, MPEG or MP4 video formats can be used. One can upload or re-upload their video attachment no later than 4-days after the March 1, 2020 paper submission deadline (i.e. March 5, 2020 23:59 PST).

RA-L with IROS Option (IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters)

RA-L is a journal following IEEE’s highest standards of IEEE periodicals. This option adds value; one’s RA-L submission has the opportunity to be presented at IROS. More information for this option is found in the link below. Note: The decision of RA-L with IROS Option and decision of RA-L is independent.

https://www.ieee-ras.org/publications/ra-l

Please follow the RA-L submission process on PaperPlaza for IEEE RA-L Submission and select Submission for RA-L and IROS. Please do not follow the IROS 2020 submission process.

T-RO and RAM Papers and IROS 2020

The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) journal and magazine are the Transactions on Robotics (TR-O) and Robotics and Automation Magazine (RAM). IROS adds value to one’s TR-O or RAM paper with even greater visibility. Any TR-O or RAM paper will be given a IROS presentation slot:

A. TR-O or RAM final accepted manuscript was submitted for proofing between May 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020

B. TR-O or RAM manuscript is not a communication item, survey or tutorial paper

Authors of eligible paper will be contacted by the respective T-RO or RAM Editor-in-Chief’s office to gage author(s) interest in presenting at IROS. Note: eligible papers may one be presented at one conference. More details can be found:
